Flood warnings issued for some MS counties

BYRAM, MS (Mississippi News Now)- Last week's rains are now raising water levels on streams and rivers.

Only minor flooding is being reported in the metro with small amounts of water under homes in Hinds County.

This was the scene near the Swinging Bridge near Byram Sunday evening, where there is a flood warning.

The Pearl River is forecast to reach 30 and a half feet by Wednesday morning, that's two and a half feet above flood stage.

JPD officer home after motorcycle crash

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- The unidentified off duty officer involved in a motorcycle crash Saturday, is home and recuperating from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident, according to Officer Colendula Green with JPD.

The accident  happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Saturday the officer was listed in serious condition at University Medical Center.

JPD Officer Colendula Green said the officer was riding his bike in the southbound lane of I-55, north of Lakeland Drive when the crash occurred.

Phoenix Club gives $35K to Boys & Girls Club

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- The Phoenix Club of Jackson gave back to the community today.

At the 6th Annual Seersucker & Sombreros event, the organization celebrated the Kentucky Derby, Cinco de Mayo and donated $35,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Mississippi.

Lake Dockery back open to the public

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- There's a new place to cast your fishing lines this spring. For the first time in nearly a decade, Lake Dockery in Byram opened back up for public fishing.

Byram resident Mack Jackson said he'd always pass by Lake Dockery and think to himself "you know that's a nice looking lake just can't believe you can't fish there."

College hosts Hinds County special education field day

Hinds Community College and Hinds County school district teamed up April 30 for the fourth annual special education student field day.

40 year sentence for accomplice in Ridgeland murder

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now)- After a two day trial ended with a guilty verdict in February, a judge handed down a 40 year sentence for a Jackson man who served as an accomplice to an armed robbery and murder in Ridgeland in April 2012.

Madison and Rankin Counties' District Attorney Michael Guest says that Bobby Lee Allen, 23, was found guilty of armed robbery, accessory after the fact to murder, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, following a two day trial on Feb. 26.

Jackson company blamed for mobile home damage

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now)- A Pearl woman says the movers she hired damaged a newly purchased trailer then abandoned the job, and she wants others to be warned of the services.

"It's continued to be a nightmare one after another," said Alivia Townsend. "My home was moved and damaged and abandoned in a lot off Parcel Drive."

Townsend says G & B Mobile Home movers located at 2250 Hwy 80 West in Jackson is the company giving her headaches. She hired them to move a trailer from Canton to Pearl, and claims they've given her a world of problems.
