MDWFP, Byram to host youth fishing day at Lake Dockery

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks and the City of Byram will host a youth fishing day at Lake Dockery Saturday, May 4, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is open for youth ages 15 and under who are accompanied by an adult with a valid Mississippi fishing license.

Lake Dockery will open to the general public May 5.

CHS thespians perform ‘Graceland’ and ‘Greater Tuna’

CLINTON — Theater fans are in for a treat on April 16 and 19, when the Arrow Players perform the plays Graceland and Greater Tuna.

Performances will be held at 6 p.m. for Graceland and 7:30 p.m. for Greater Tuna. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased in the Clinton High School front office in advance, or at the door the night of the plays. Seating is limited.

Graceland is the story of two eccentric women and fervent Elvis Presley fans who camp out three days before the opening of Graceland in Memphis,” said Chasidy Burns, CHS teacher and Arrow Players sponsor.

CHS plans Superhero Skate-A-Thon, car show fundraisers

CLINTON — Philanthropic activities are an annual occurrence at Clinton High School, and this year, fundraisers for the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital are taking on epic proportions.

Students can be heroes for Batson at the first Superhero Skate-A-Thon, planned for 6-10 p.m. Monday, April 8 at Funtime Skateland in Clinton.

“Blair E. Batson is the only hospital in Mississippi devoted to helping sick and injured children of all ages,” said event planner and CHS teacher Megan Woodard-Berry.

Delta Tech to host high school welding competition

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Delta Technical College will host a welding competition for central and southern Mississippi high school and vocational school students this month.

The competition is set for March 8 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Ridgeland at 113 Marketridge Drive.

Delta Tech hopes the competition will encourage high school vocational students to continue to practice in the mechanical trades fields and also show support for local vocational programs.
