Dallas Police Department recruiters in town | News
JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- Are you in the market for a job? A position in law enforcement perhaps? Well Dallas police are in town hoping to line up a new batch of recruits.
The Dallas police force has openings for 200 new hires. Recruiters are combing the country looking for qualified candidates. They have set up a phase 1 testing program at Jackson State University. That's where interested applicants can apply and be interviewed. Officer Tramese Andrews said, "We came here because we feel like we can give them opportunities. We felt like we would get a good response so we came to Jackson State University and we are anxious to see who is coming out."
Fifty people turned out Thursday. Andrews said, "We have all of our testing which here includes a preliminary interview, a physical fitness test, a polygraph exam as well as an applicant interview.
They say they are not here to take officers away from Jackson's force, but to enlist new recruits.Dallas has a force of 3,600 officers with a city population of 1.3 million people. Andrews said, "we are not here to take anybody from the police force. We are here to give an opportunity so we will see who will takes us up on the opportunity come down."
Crime in the Texas city has been down for the past 8 years.
Dallas police recruiters will be in town through Sunday. The starting pay when you enter their police academy is over $42,000 with benefits.
