Clinton Public School District honors 2012-2013 retirees

CLINTON — The Clinton Public School District on Tuesday, May 14, honored its retiring employees.

“It’s been a joy and a privilege working with these outstanding faculty and staff,” said Dr. Phil Burchfield, superintendent. “Through the years, they have touched the lives of thousands of students, and their contributions to our community cannot be measured.”

Retirees were honored during the May school board meeting in the Central Office boardroom.

Nathan Aultman (Mangham, La.) and Katelyn Hegwood (Taylorsville) were the winners of the prestigious Eagle and Lady Eagle Awards at the annual Hinds Community College athletic banquet, held in Mayo Fieldhouse on Monday night.

Ian Hammond Wins Byrd Preaching Award

Ian Hammond spoke with passion in his voice as he delivered the sermon titled “From the Depths of Despair to the Heights of Heaven.”

Hundreds of Mississippi College students applauded his inaugural message on March 19 at First Baptist Church Clinton. They also were clapping because the MC senior was the recipient of the 2013 Byrd Memorial Preaching Award.

“I’m so proud him,” said Hammond’s pastor, Keith Phillips of Christ Fellowship Church in Mobile, Alabama. “Ian shows a maturity level reflecting good preparation and delivery and boldness in the Gospel,” he said. “He’s got a heart for evangelism.”... Read More

Mississippi College Hosts Clinton Political Forum

Candidates for Clinton mayor and the city’s Board of Aldermen will join citizens at a political forum on the Mississippi College campus April 18.

The Clinton Chamber of Commerce will host the event beginning at 7 p.m. in Swor Auditorium. It’s a good opportunity for Clinton voters to size up the candidates just weeks before the May 7 party primaries.

International Festival Spotlights MC Students Around the Globe

Abby Li, a Mississippi College student from China, will play the accordion. MC junior Arun Khurana of India will sing traditional songs from her country. South Korean students will perform K-Pop, a Korean dance.

Kathleen Suedel named CPSD’s 2012-13 Parent of the Year

CLINTON — Kathleen Suedel is a familiar face in Clinton’s schools, where she is an active supporter of athletics and other activities that her son is involved in.

And on Tuesday, she was named the Clinton Public School District’s Parent of the Year for the 2012-13 school year. She was given the award in a surprise presentation at Clinton Junior High, where is works in the front office.

“Mrs. Suedel is active in the Touchdown Club, and during the football season she prepared meals every Sunday for our football coaches when they came to the school to plan for the next week,” said Dr. Eddie Peasant, Clinton High School principal.
