Lovett principal named National Distinguished Principal

CLINTON — Richard Burge, principal of Lovett Elementary School, is a National Distinguished Principal.

Burge was presented the award during a surprise presentation on Tuesday. He is the only principal in Mississippi to receive the award this year.

“Mr. Burge holds his students and teachers to a high standard of achievement, he is a strong manager and he hires only the best teachers,” Burchfield said. “What he’s doing at Lovett is a formula for success.

Rev. Jesse Jackson named Honory Hinds Co. Deputy Sheriff Chaplain

Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis swore in Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., as an Honorary Deputy Sheriff Chaplain Monday.

Rev. Jackson signed an oath and was presented an official Hinds County Sheriff Badge, according to the Hinds County Sheriff's Office Facebook.

Clinton grad elected Delta State student government president

2009 Clinton High School graduate Alanna Ferguson has been elected student government president at Delta State University for the 2012-13 school year.

Alanna is also president of the Phi Mu Fraternity and treasurer of the National Students of Speech Language and Hearing Association.

Other involvements include Union Program Council, Pageant Board, orientation leader, honors societies Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi, and the President's List.

Alanna is the daughter of Kennon and Barbie Ferguson of Clinton.

Two CHS basketball players sign basketball scholarships

Two Clinton High School basketball players signed college scholarships Wednesday.

Eric Smith Jr., signed to play for Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Domonic Davis signed with East Mississippi Community College.

Byram Police Department Officer Jess Zetterholm graduated Thursday from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer’s Training Academy.

Zetterholm is the department’s first academy recruit, according to the PD’s Facebook page.

He graduated with honors and ranked second in his class. He was also recognized for achieving the class’ highest scores in physical fitness and academics.

Karen Bedells named CPSD’s 2011-12 Parent of the Year

Karen Bedells named CPSD’s 2011-12 Parent of the Year

CLINTON — Karen Bedells is a familiar face at her children’s schools, overseeing student volunteers and actively serving on PTOs.

And on Thursday, she was named the Clinton Public School District’s Parent of the Year for the 2011-12 school year. She was given the award in a surprise presentation Thursday morning at Clinton High School.

Bedells has been active for many years in her children’s schools.
