Natchez Trace Parkway to reopen 8-mile section

RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT) - The closed section of the Natchez Trace Parkway south of Ridgeland will reopen Nov. 13.

The National Park Service announced Monday that repairs to the damaged section of the road are complete.

The 8-mile section of the parkway from Ridgeland to Clinton had been closed to vehicles since March.

The National Park Service partnered with the Federal Highway Administration to make the repairs after engineers identified instability to an embankment that could have caused to roadway to collape.

South Delta WMA public meeting Sept. 25

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Park will host a public meeting in Vicksburg Sept. 25, to discuss the South Delta Wildlife Management Areas.

The meeting is from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hinds Community College in Vicksburg.

The meeting will showcase regional WMA harvest data, wildlife habitat and infrastructure improvements and regulation changes, according to the MDWFP.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation released the following updates on road projects in Hinds County:

  • State Road 18 at Midway Road: A $321,566 project to install a traffic signal on State Road 18 at Midway Road is complete and awaiting final inspection.
  • Interstate Slide Project: Work to repair landslides on and adjacent to the Interstate system is beginning at a total cost of $597,333.
  • Interstate Sign and Truss Replacement in the Jackson Metro Area: A $4.67 million project to replace signs on Interstates 20, 55 and 220 is 38 percent complete.

CPSD, city of Clinton team up for veterans memorial statue

CLINTON — The Clinton Public School District and the city of Clinton have teamed up on fundraising efforts to construct a war memorial statue at the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor’s Center.

Every school in the Clinton district began holding coin drives this month, and the effort will continue through mid-November. The class that collects the most money will win a pizza party with Mayor Rosemary Aultman.

“This memorial will honor all armed servicemen and women from Clinton,” said Dr.

Sobriety checkpoints on Natchez Trace Parkway Friday

MADISON COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Parkway Rangers will be conducting sobriety checkpoints on the Natchez Trace Parkway Friday -- in an effort to reduce impaired driving.

Friday night between 9 and 2 a.m., there will be a checkpoint between milepost 75 and 116 in Hinds or Madison counties, according to news release from the National Park Service.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Mississippi squirrel hunting season is quickly approaching and will last through the end of February.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks says now is the time to check equipment and prepare for a safe hunting season.

Hunters should be sure their hunting licenese are not expired, according to the MDWFP.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - With rain in the forecast, some Clinton residents are nervous. There's good reason for that since their property is eroding and homes have been flooded more than once because of poor drainage. The problem areas are on Pebble Lane in the Trailwood subdivision and Cowles Creek Road in the Bruenberg subdivision.

Frustrated homeowners called 3 On Your Side because they say they are not getting any help.

"This was someone's yard just a few weeks ago," said Sharee Carlock.
