CPSD offering Grab-N-Go lunches for K-8 graders

CLINTON — Students in grades K-8 now have a sack lunch option in school cafeterias.

The new Grab-N-Go Lunch option is a healthy and more convenient alternative to traditional packed lunches from home, said Keba Laird, supervisor in CPSD’s Child Nutrition Department.

“They taste great and meet a third of children’s daily nutrition needs,” she said.

We were saddened and deeply troubled to hear about the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday. According to news reports, 27 people were murdered including 20 children who were 6 and 7 years old.

In this day and age, we can never be absolutely protected in all circumstances, but we do train our staff and rely on our parents to help us ensure that we enforce our own policies and procedures.

Northside Principal Joy Tyner named Administrator of Year

CLINTON — Joy Tyner, principal of Northside Elementary School, is the Clinton Public School District’s 2012-13 Administrator of the Year.

She received the award in a surprise presentation Wednesday at the school.

“Mrs. Tyner sets high expectations both for her students and faculty,” said Dr. Phil Burchfield, superintendent. “She is well respected by her peers and is a strong instructional leader at Northside.”

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to speak at Mississippi College

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Mississippi College announced Tuesday former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will speak at the college in March.

Bush, the younger brother of former President George W. Bush, will be the keynote speaker at the college's spring scholarship dinner at 6:30 p.m. on March 26.

Jeb Bush pushed for public education reform, including charter schools, during his time as Florida's governor from 1999 to 2007, according to a press release from Mississippi College.
