CPSD names Tyler Wade new boys soccer coach

CLINTON — Tyler Wade, former soccer standout at Mississippi College, is the new head coach of the Arrows soccer team.

“Coach Wade will be a great fit for this position,” said Dr. Clay Norton, athletic director. “He was an outstanding player and has shown a lot of promise as a coach.”

In high school, Wade was a two-year starter for the Pearl High School soccer team and was part of three state championships. After graduating in 2006, he went on to Mississippi College where he was a two-year team captain and first team All-American Southwest Conference during his senior season.

MDWFP, Byram to host youth fishing day at Lake Dockery

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks and the City of Byram will host a youth fishing day at Lake Dockery Saturday, May 4, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is open for youth ages 15 and under who are accompanied by an adult with a valid Mississippi fishing license.

Lake Dockery will open to the general public May 5.

CHS senior captures powerlifting state championship

CLINTON — Javion Lee, a senior at Clinton High School, is the boys powerlifting state champion in his division.

Javion tied the 6A record with a squat of 415 and broke the deadlift 6A record with a deadlift of 450 pounds for the 123 weight division. He broke the previous total pound record of 1,040 for the 123 division with a total weight of 1,050.

“This is a major accomplishment and we’re proud of Javion,” said coach Robert Bass. “He worked hard to prepare for this competition and it’s great to see him and other Clinton students do so well.”

5th graders to create bicycling poster

A national contest is offering 5th graders the chance to win a bike, bike light, and helmet. During the 2013 Bicycling Poster Contest, 5th grade students must create a poster around the theme "Bicycling makes life better."  The purpose of the contest is to promote youth riding bicycles as a way to lead a healthy lifestyle.

One winner will be selected from each state to receive a bike, bike light, and helmet.

Folks on the fairgrounds attending the Dixie Nationals took a break from all the action to watch the Super Bowl.

We caught up with a group with the Yazoo County Livestock Association tail gating near the coliseum.

More than 50 were gathered for the game, watching two big screens set up outside an R.V.

Jackson restaurant owner Chad Chester and his friends have been getting together at the Dixie Nationals for about 20 years.

They often get a chance to take in the big game in between live stock events.

Baseball camp at CHS set for Feb. 9

CLINTON — Clinton High School is hosting a baseball camp for boys interested in playing the sport when they get older.

The 2013 Arrow Baseball Camp will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at Arrow Field. It is for boys ages 5 and older.

“Participants will receive instruction from the Clinton High School Arrows coaching staff and players,” said Eddie Lofton, baseball coach.
