MDOT warns youth of distracted driving dangers

The Mississippi Department of Transportation will show Mississippians at several events an up-close look at the tragic consequences that can occur when persons choose to drive or travel while impaired, distracted, or without buckling up.

‘Rover,’ one of MDOT’s safety-demonstration vehicles, simulates what can happen to unrestrained drivers and passengers when rollover crashes occur at a speed of 35 mph.

The Distracted Driving Simulator allows participants a first-person a...ccount of the real-life consequences of distracted driving. Participants maneuver their virtual vehicle through various on-screen scenarios while text messaging with the computer's program.

Hinds Co. announces emergency road closure

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The Hinds County Public Works Department has announced an emergency road closure.

Parsons Road approximately one mile from Midway Road will be closed from Friday until March 1. Crews will be working to replace a cross drain.

Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic.

Joe Coker Road Bridge closed until further notice

HINDS COUNTY, MS (MSNewsNow) - The Hinds County Public Works department announced Friday the Joe Coker Road Bridge will be closed until further notice.

All vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be redirected to Highway 49, Greens Crossing Road and Lanewood Road.

Natchez Trace Parkway to reopen 8-mile section

RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT) - The closed section of the Natchez Trace Parkway south of Ridgeland will reopen Nov. 13.

The National Park Service announced Monday that repairs to the damaged section of the road are complete.

The 8-mile section of the parkway from Ridgeland to Clinton had been closed to vehicles since March.

The National Park Service partnered with the Federal Highway Administration to make the repairs after engineers identified instability to an embankment that could have caused to roadway to collape.

Clinton police, CPSD revise traffic guidelines for Arrow Drive

CLINTON — Since the start of school on Monday, Clinton police and school district officials have been monitoring morning and afternoon traffic on Arrow Drive.

“We knew that Arrow Drive as it is could not support this much traffic and needs to be altered to accommodate morning traffic,” said Dr. Phil Burchfield, CPSD superintendent.

The Natchez Trace Parkway is performing pavement repair work in Ridgeland from milepost 103 to 112, between US Hwy 51 and Hwy 43.

This work will be done between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the next several weeks, the National Park Service announced this week.

It's necessary to close one lane through short sections while the repairs are made.  Motorists should expect delays during work hours.
