Natchez Trace Parkway: Slow down in amphibian habitat

HINDS COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - The National Park Service has announced a 35 mph speed zone on a two-mile section of the Natchez Trace Parkway in Hinds County south of Interstate 20.

The speed zone will be in effect from now through April.

The park service says the area is a sensitive amphibian habitat. The speed zone will improve safety for researchers from the Mississippi Museum of  Natural Science, U.S.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Monday, the Mississippi Department of Health reported 13 new human West Nile virus cases, including one in Hinds County. Twenty-four human cases of West Nile virus have been reported in Hinds County so far this year.

Across the state, a record 213 cases of West Nile virus and five deaths have been reported this year.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Monday, the Mississippi Department of Health reported 17 new human West Nile virus cases, including three in Hinds County. Twenty-two cases of WNV have been reported in Hinds County this year.

So far this year, 186 cases of West Nile virus and four deaths have been reported in the state.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Monday, the Mississippi Department of Health reported 26 new West Nile virus cases, including one in Hinds County.

A total of 14 cases of West Nile virus have been reported in Hinds County this year.

So far this year, 140 cases of West Nile virus and four deaths have been reported in the state.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Thursday, the Mississippi Department of Health reported the state's second West Nile virus death of the year and nine new human cases of the virus, including two in Hinds County.

The death occured in Lincoln County, according to the department of health.

So far this year, 85 cases of West Nile virus have been reported. Hinds County has 12 total reported cases.

HINDS COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Monday, the Mississippi Department of Health announced 17 new human cases of West Nile virus, including two in Hinds County.

So far this year, 76 cases of West Nile virus have been reported and one death.

In 2011, Mississippi had 52 WNV cases and five deaths.

The Mississippi State Department of Health recommends the following precautions to reduce the risk of contracting WNV:

  • Remove sources of standing water, especially after rainfall.

YAZOO COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Monday, the Mississippi Department of Health announced seven new human cases of West Nile virus, inclduing one in Hinds County County.

So far this year, cases have been reported in Lauderdale, Hancock, Lincoln, Marion, Yazoo, Hinds, Jones, Forrest, Covington, Coahoma and Wayne counties.

In 2011, Mississippi had 52 WNV cases and five deaths.
