RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT) - Students all over the metro area laced up their walking shoes Wednesday morning for International Walk to School Day. Several student bodies observed the day including McWillie Elementary in Jackson, Raymond Elementary and Ann Smith Elementary in Ridgeland.

The walk is an effort to help students realize that there are safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance increasing physical activity among children. The event was organized by Mississippi State Department of Health's Safe Routes to School program.
